Mary O. Bowman Fellowship

For an upper division undergraduate or a graduate student in the Department of Kinesiology with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Students may be current students or new applicants, matriculating in the semester in which the fellowship is designated. One student per year will be selected, and the previous year recipient is eligible to re-apply.

Upon acceptance of the fellowship, the student agrees to engage in a service-oriented project designed to support the Department of Kinesiology. The project may include serving as a volunteer in a community organization such as a recreation department, school or recognized service organization, or assisting professors with clerical duties or research activities. The application must also include: one letter of recommendation, and a statement of the service-oriented project.
The following will be taken into consideration in the candidate selection:
GPA, activity/ service involvement and willingness to contribute time and effort to a worthwhile event or situation; demonstrated physical activity involvement and experience-includes commitment to fitness, sport participation, or other physical activity related areas; and evidence of character, professional/ athletic experience, and academic potential as related to: leadership, discipline to follow through on responsibilities, dependability, and professional commitment.
The fellowship may also be used for fees/tuition, books, and/ or student travel to professional association meetings.

Dr. Bowman served Kinesiology as a full-time faculty member from 1962-1984. During that time, she was Chair of the department, and Interim Dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts. Dr. Bowman was a department and university leader who served Kinesiology with distinction and made a difference in the university.
